The real question is, did he have to pay that much for that improvement? I doubt it. No doubt he could easily afford it easily, though.

I lean heavier on the empirical than the subjective when it comes to audio. But once upon a time I worked for an audio retailer who had Monster cable come in and demo their analog audio cables for us, to compare with our in-house cables that, in my estimation, were more than good enough. They hooked up some 10' TRS cables between some prosumer grade studio monitors and audio interface (Mackie and Focusrite respectively, as I recall), and I couldn't believe what I was hearing. There wasn't a noticeable increase in SPL, but the audio sounded noticeably more "clear." It was not a subtle difference. Me and a colleague kept switching between the two sets of cables for the next 10 minutes after the formal demo, with different listening material, and we couldn't help but acknowledged that there was something real going on in the signal chain, not in our heads. The more expensive cable made a real difference for the better. To this day I don't know why exactly.

This experience really threw me, because I was always of the mindset that boutique cables were snake oil. Granted, those Monster cables were not priced into the stratosphere like the cables Transparent are selling ($315 for a 0.5m USB cable??? REALLY?), more like double the price of our reasonably priced line of cables... but I can't say anymore that cables don't matter. In some cases, they do make a difference. Why anybody would pay that kind of money for digital cables is beyond me though... Every instrument sounded fine but the (THREE) drummers and the sax player were mixed so loud that you could barely hear the 2 guitarists or the vocals for the entire concert. If you listen to King Crimson you don't need me to tell you how important the guitar is in their music. I ask my 2 parents who know nothing about sound about it and they agreed they could only hear the drums and sax, so it wasn't just me. We get in the car and I have their music playing from the record, and I can hear the guitar and vocals fine, the drums are barely there just holding the backbeat, and I go "Yes! That's how it was SUPPOSED to sound! You can hear all of the riffs in the song!"

This was a huge outdoor venue and we were sitting right behind the mixing desk. It was not some crappy club. Also, this was one of the greatest bands in history with some of the best players in the world. So...not sure why that happened.

Then of course, I go to a Steven Wilson concert in Orlando and the sound is so good it sounds better than the album. Same caliber of players and music. But much, much much more enjoyable as a concert. I went home thinking I wish every concert I went to sounded like that. Periphery and Dillinger Escape Plan did a show at the same venue House of Blues that sounded muddy and confused, then I see Periphery at a big club in Jacksonville a year later and again the mix sounds incredible, better than the album, everything is in your face, everything sounds crystal clear, and it just makes a huge difference.

And as an audience member you have zero control. I can't just go up to the mixing desk and tell them to turn the drums down. So you just sit through 2 hours of your favorite music being ALMOST RIGHT except for a couple of volume faders being set wrong not being able to jack about it. Lol. First world problems I guess. I know the team that worked on this, and they were absolutely passionate about getting tone and sound just right, and the performance is solid. But it's not the original. You can compare it with the sound alike from the GH2 game, but also Slash's playing grooves and syncopates in a different way than this player. Too bad. I go to loads of rock shows and I can never get my head around this.

I'm in the UK and I find that especially at smaller venues it's either bass far too heavy, no lead guitar and always poor vocals. You can almost never make out what the vocalist is saying. Even when no music is playing between songs and the vocalist is talking, all you get is inaudible booming. Really ruins it for me unless I know all the songs and can guess the lyrics.

It's not just the loudness of the drums. Very often, the rhythm guitar or bass guitar is just ridiculously loud and completely drowns out the lead. I've often wondered in the past whether bands do this because the musicians are drunk or something and it is a way to cover up mistakes.

Also, I'm no sound expert but I'm guessing you wouldn't mix rock music the same as say, rap music.

Sound guys. Get it together please.

Bands. I've heard really good things about them from other people, plus many Yamaha HS7 reviews including this one have so much praise for these monitors. I go to more small venues than large ones, and you can actually stand out and be singled out if you don't sing along, which happened to me one night at a concert I'd done my own set for earlier in the night.

As a performer you're there for the audience's good time, the audience is not there for yours. As soon as I hear the words "I know you know it!" I head for the line to the bathroom, hoping the singalong part will be over by the time I get back. Tonight an old songwriter friend of mine, who moved to Nashville in 1990 and comes back to our little folk club every few years, will be there. And I won't. Last time I showed up, way too much of the night was spent being exhorted to join in on the chorus of John Fucking Denver tunes. I get that singalong can get the joy chemicals moving, but it doesn't work that was for everyone. Respect every person who takes the time, trouble and ticket price to show up for your gig, and give them a show to remember. Don't put them to work for your ego trip.
jaiquaihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13121673669920312071noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5913752433926766420.post-12123424135559072852017-03-18T20:30:37.260-07:002017-03-18T20:30:37.260-07:00actually the song structure is:

I tried Googling it to see what other people thought of it but oddly haven't found anything other than this page- which is astonishing to me because that note is so assertive and noticeable. For a long time I wasn't sure if I even liked it, until I realized that it being there made the song that much more interesting to me. Because, like you said, the song is otherwise so down-the-line C minor/blues... My biggest frame of reference for that kind of natural minor/melodic minor (or just minor sixth/major sixth) mish-mash is actually "Achilles Last Stand" by Led Zeppelin, which is in E minor but features C and C# probably about equally.

Also, I also really wish I knew what that third background vocal line was as well.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14803796621303365156noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5913752433926766420.post-77616168987566558632017-02-09T23:01:00.634-08:002017-02-09T23:01:00.634-08:00Thank you for sharing the article, it was really h...Thank you for sharing the article, it was really helpful.
