Bootsy's Basic Funk Formula

Staying with our bass theme for the week, here's a funk lesson from the master - Bootsy Collins. Of course, Bootsy came to prominence by playing on some of James Brown's biggest hits ("Sex Machine", "Super Bad") and then with Parliament-Funkadelic before starting his own Rubber Band and Sweat Band.

Even though this is short, it's an introduction to playing funk from the man himself.

It's an excerpt from a 1992 British documentary called Lenny Henry Hunts The Funk. Lenny Henry is a British comedian with a deep love for da funk, and the program has him travelling the US countryside, interviewing key funk participants as he provides a sterling history of the genre. I saw it on Australian television a few years ago (and loved it) but, as far as I can tell, it's never been released on DVD.
