Solo artists many times get a reputation for being hard bosses, but the fact of the matter is that there's a lot of pressure on them from many different angles.Here's an original Frank Zappa interview from 1984 that describes why he sometimes needed to be a "dictator" in his dealings with his band, as well as how much it cost him to get the band ready to tour (and remember this was over 30 years ago so we're talking about 2.3 times more in today's money).
