Song Lyrics image
Most songwriters take their lyrics very seriously, so it's painful when a listener hears them differently from the way they're written. Spotify recently came out with a list of their top 10 misquoted song lyrics after a fan survey. Here they are:

What they hear: "Blinded by the light..wrapped up like a douche when you're rollin in the night."

2. Jimi Hendrix's "Purple Haze" - 19%

3. The Clash's "Rock The Casbah" - 14%

5. Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Bad Moon Rising" - 12%

6. Guns n' Roses' "Paradise City" - 10%

Many of these (primarily the older songs) are commonly known by the writers of these songs and even are accepted by some.

For example Bruce Springsteen (writer of "Blinded by the Light") Acknowledges that people hear the lyric in Manfred Mann's version wrong in interviews.

There was a popular commercial on American TV about the misheard lyrics for Rockin' the Casbah

"Hold me closer Tony Danza" was a joke on the TV show FRIENDS

CCR has performed Bad Moon Rising live and purposely used the line "Bathroom on the right"

And finally, I've watched video of Hendrix kissing Noel Redding on the cheek after singing the line "Scuse me, while I kiss the sky/this guy"

Misheard lyrics are often funny, and also often accepted by the artists. Just my 2 cents to add some information to this article.
