SSL Factory Tour

I spent a few years in the 80s as a VP at AMEK, a British console maker (the desks are still highly regarded) and I spent a lot of time at the factory in Manchester, UK. I remember distinctly all that went into building a world-class recording console.

That's what makes the following SSL factory tour video from Pro Tools Expert so interesting, at least to me. The conditions and methods of building a console have come so very far from those old analog-only days.

Here SSL's Jim Motley takes us through production of Duality, AWS and Matrix consoles from beginning to end. It's not totally in-depth, but still a good overview of the process.

Eminence Speaker Factory Tour

Here's a great video that takes you through the different departments and steps in making a speaker in the Eminence Speaker factory in Eminence, Kentucky.

It's very cool to see how a speaker is designed and built to the customer's specifications.

It's especially cool to see how the compression drivers are made.

A Manley Labs Virtual Factory Tour

I think I posted an abbreviated video of the Manley Labs factory tour about a year ago, but here's the official version. It's a brilliant illustration of why Manley products are of the highest quality.

EveAnna Manley's attention to detail is unsurpassed and you can tell by this video. Manley gear is truly made-in-America, and you'll see how even the panel engraving, machining and transformer winding is done at the factory, which is very unique in these days of outsourcing.

There's one thing that's generally true in any industry and certain holds true here - excellent people = excellent gear!

Manley Factory Tour

As anyone who's into audio knows, Manley Labs tube audio gear is some of the finest in the business. But if you don't know already, CEO EveAnna Manley is one of the most unique individuals not only in the industry, but in any business.

She's built Manley Labs into the powerhouse that it is by herself, based on superior designs and treating customers and non-customers extremely well. In fact, EveAnna has quietly helped more people in more ways that most people know (including your truly a few times). The lady has a huge heart and she has the smarts to match in that she knows more about tubes and the electronics that surround them than most people on the planet.

If you really want to be impressed though, check out this video tour of the Manley factory. I got the tour a few years ago and was blown away. It's better now, as you'll see.
